It was no secret that D.J. Moore was unhappy with his situation in Chicago. Moore wanted out, and on March 5, 2026, the Chicago Bears granted him his wish. A deal was agreed upon with the Buffalo Bills. This trade sent D.J. Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick (No. 165 overall) to the Bills in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick (No. 60 overall). This deal was made official when the new league year began. The D.J. Moore trade could have a massive affect on fantasy football.
This was a great trade for both organizations. The Bears have some young pass catchers that they have drafted over the last couple of years in Rome Odunze, Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland. They drafted Odunze and Loveland with two of their first-round picks in the last couple of years, while Luther Burden was a second-round pick last year. Second year quarterback Caleb Williams has seemingly developed a connection with these young targets while he and D.J. Moore never really seemed to see eye to eye.
Caleb Williams was drafted to the Bears with the number one pick in the 2024 Draft. Leading up to his rookie season, the Chicago Bears signed Moore to a four-year $110 million contract extension. Moore was expected to be the premier target for Williams, but it never really worked out. This move to Buffalo is a fresh start for D.J. Moore, where he will get a chance to catch passes from star quarterback Josh Allen.
Josh Allen has been looking for a true number one receiver ever since Stephon Diggs left for Houston in 2024. Khalil Shakir has been the man for Josh Allen since then. The Bills also drafted wide receiver Keon Coleman in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, but that has not panned out. Coleman never really caught any kind of consistent traction at the NFL level. While Shakir has been a solid option for Allen, he has never really been a true number one receiving option. This D.J. Moore trade gives the Bills a possible true number one receiver and receiver depth that they haven’t seen for a while.
D.J. Moore has never really been lucky enough to have a star quarterback throwing him the ball. The list of quarterbacks he has played with is as follows:
- Cam Newton
- Taylor Heinicke
- Kyle Allen
- Will Grier
- Teddy Bridgewater
- P.J. Walker
- Sam Darnold
- Baker Mayfield
- Justin Fields
- Tyson Bagent
- Caleb Williams
Cam Newton was the best quarterback he played with, and he caught passes from him for one good season toward the end of Newton’s career. Despite his shortcomings throughout his career when it comes to the quarterback room, Moore has put up some very respectful fantasy seasons. Here are D.J. Moore’s career fantasy numbers in a PPR league:
| D.J. Moore Career Fantasy Football Stats | ||||

As you can see from this chart, Moore had his worst season since his rookie year last year, scoring only 10 points per game. The additions of Luther Burden III and Colston Loveland in last year’s NFL draft had put D.J. Moore on the back burner in Chicago by the end of the year, but star quarterback Josh Allen could revive his career.
Some believe D.J. Moore may be on the decline and that his best fantasy football days are behind him. However, I disagree. I think he could be a steal in drafts this season. D.J. Moore sits at wide receiver 36 and is ranked 83rd in the overall dynasty PPR ranks. This puts D.J. Moore in a position to be drafted at the end of the seventh round. At this point you could take Moore as a flex play.
D.J. Moore is 28 years old, but with Josh Allen throwing him the ball he could prove to be a talent as a flex player to number two receiver. I would take a shot at him in round seven. Moore’s trade value still sits at a 2026 late round pick or a player like quarterback Malik Willis or Jordan Addison. This is solid value for a player his age, but that will go down quickly over the next couple of years.
The Bears received a late second-round pick in this trade and that could be used to add a very valuable player that could make an impact on their roster as early as this season. I think overall this was a very even trade. The Bills got a talented receiver for Josh Allen and a shot at another player late in this year’s NFL draft, while the Bears got a shot to get a very solid player with a day two pick in the draft. Could this be the move Josh Allen needed to finally reach the Super Bowl? Time will tell.sy football and in the real NFL. It will be interesting to see how it all unfolds during the upcoming season.
